Knicks take down the Pelicans in O/T

The New York Knicks fought back late against the New Orleans Pelicans before completing the comeback in the extra period to make it six wins in a row!



The Pelicans have now lost their last three games, including two defeats to the Knicks.


The Knicks struggled to find their shot early and the Pelicans took advantage as they went into the second quarter with a four point lead.


New York levelled the scores early in the fourth quarter with Derrick Rose providing the spark off the bench, as he hit a quick nine points for the home team.


This current Knicks team have relied on their defense so far this season and did so again to resume the lead in this one, restricting the Pelicans to just 19 points in the second quarter. Julius Randle also added an impressive 16 points in the quarter after going scoreless in the opening period of play. HT: Pelicans 44-57 Knicks.


The Pelicans came out with purpose in the second half and hit back to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter as the Knicks waivered. Eric Bledsoe led the way for the Pelicans, scoring 13 points in the third as the teams went into the final period all square.



New Orleans went in front early in the fourth as the teams exchanged leads before the Pels were able to open a seven point lead with under four minutes remaining.


The Knicks stayed in touch however and Rose cut the Pelicans lead to three with just 1:30 remaining before setting up Reggie Bullock in the corner to force the game into overtime. The forward knocking down from three, with just 2.3 seconds remaining, to level the scores at 103.


Rose's performance off the bench was crucial for the Knicks and he set the team on its way in overtime with a layup after intercepting a pass by Brandon Ingram. The former Bull finished the game with 23 pts & 5 assists, including 12 points in the fourth quarter/O/T.


Zion did his best to keep the Pelicans in touch but with 53.4 seconds remaining, Randle stretched the Knicks lead to eight, hitting a three from the wing and icing the victory for New York. The former Pelican finished with 33 pts 5 rebs 10 ast & 5 steals.



The Knicks once again showed their steel to fight back late & secure the win in overtime. They now sit just 0.5 games back on the Celtics and Hawks, in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. As for the Pelicans, they remain three games back on the tenth place Spurs in race for the play-in tournament places. Final Score O/T at MSG: Pelicans 112-122 Knicks.
