Knicks blow 18 point lead in Minnesota loss

The Knicks blew an 18 point lead against the Timberwolves, as they suffered a second straight loss after winning three straight.

The Timberwolves earned their 12th win of the season as rookie guard Anthony Edwards stepped up down the stretch to secure victory.

A close contest to start, the Knicks managed to grab the initiative and led by seven points at the end of the first quarter.

New York stretched their lead to 18 as they dominated early in the second but Minnesota showed grit and closed to within a point at the half, 51-50.

The Timberwolves fight was driven by their rookies, Edwards and McDaniels, the two combined for 42 points with McDaniels dropping 4 three pointers aswell as guarding Julius Randle on the defensive end.

Randle & Barrett took over midway through the third quarter as the Knicks again built up a double digit lead but they still couldn't shake the Timberwolves.

Wolves stayed in touch and Anthony Edwards took control on the offensive end, the no.1 pick came up with 2 steals which led to easy buckets before KAT dropped a three and suddenly the Knicks lead was cut to two points. Julius Randle knocked down back to back buckets to keep the Knicks on top but then went cold.

After another pair of buckets from Edwards, the Timberwolves found themselves two points down with possession and just 40 seconds remaining. The ball was once again in the hands of Ant and after being doubled on his drive inside he kicked the ball out to Malik Beasley, who sunk his 5th three pointer of the night. This gave Minnesota their first lead since the first quarter and turned out to be the final score of the game.

RJ Barrett had the chance to win it for New York even after being stripped of the ball out of the timeout following Beasley's three but he came up short with a mid range jumper as time expired.

Knicks fall to 6th in East after a second straight loss. Most would say the Timberwolves need to tank to give themselves the best chance of keeping their draft pick in 2021 but this one was for the fans as they showed heart & grit in earning the comeback win.
